Jim grew up on a small farm in Michigan's thumb, but has lived in upstate South Carolina since the age of eighteen. His first love is painting with an interest in the figure. Three dimensional media also holds a strong interest, particularly clay. In 1980, he established a ceramic studio and worked as a full time artist for the next ten years.

Presently, Jim is the art director at North Greenville College in the foothills of S.C. He has received numerous awards professionally at the state and regional levels. His works are included in collections throughout the Southeast, including the South Carolina Art Commission's permanent collection.
